puddles

rain fell
in shifts upon poor
Ungertown as
the march of the dada
tore apart
the
adjoining coffee shops
lining the boulevard

we shout yes
yes
as
a scoundrel tramples
the flower shop down the way

and then the ancient three
toed god
of the ending hour stands and clamors
for
the ears and wounds of the
sad sad
as they climb into the puddle

we now and ever
are
kept and when the puddle is dried
again the gods
rejoice the dada
are free!

the world's longest and shortest ovation

From a magazine:

some opera guy got up at the end
of his performance
and began
to beat a small child in the front
row with
the heel end of his
expensive loafer

and suddenly and I rope-swinged upon
the stage to arrive
fashionable
and
bested the voluminous fiend
with my suspenders for
whips.

scuff! caw!
I berated the fat libretto and
undid an entire evening of his
mystical enchantment;
a bucket of yellow paint
was tossed at my head,
but I being quick and desperate,
instead allowed said bucket to ricochet
off the wall and trounce
the very child I had sworn to protect.

the crowd decided to devour me, and with
little warning, began to stampede
towards the stage with
all evil intent. just
then,

the singing man decided he might
instead be an ally, and with
all force, he plucked me up
and sang his way through the
crowd of maniacs.

we were free. outside of the
auditorium I clapped and
clapped for my beaten
savior
some eighty minutes.

european command

All aboard, welcome, bon voyage, and yes, let us away to the storied halls of European Command.

what to get for the man who has everything?
we live inside of concrete bunkers,
bombs away,
the happy winter, we all
remove our clothes and lie in the grass.
EU tells us to move, but
we're American, and we salute the grand
nothing.

ground control to savage:
we have inbound, riot
control, ground troops, guns,
machines, cogs, elephantine
air raids, and simple
silence.
savage to ground control:
smoke and rockets,
send out the infantry.

onward good lads, victory is painted
in gold sounds and
silly;
boom goes it all. EU
sush the silence factory. bright lights,
hush
the siren even now does not still.

bike and staircase, a photo series

Up the railing
we
must find the blue ornament
resting
on
the lazy couch,
smash it,

rearrange the damned thing,
and give it to the next
passerby.

if he be emasculated, if he
be
tiny and dry around the mouth, if she be
ported and derived, if
she be a bubblegum chew
harp ditch,

then so be it.

as we rearrange the fragments
of
the smashing, such thoughts need
not enter.

we shake, we rattle

we shake, we rattle
and
it doesn't matter

in the void
of
oh oh

the world is solid
and it
is
good.

3 things
then
in the sky:

one open moon left hinged in the cliff
of
sunlight;
an old baseball seam scattered
in orbit;
liquor bottles strung together
with Christmas lights all
a twinkle.

something to sing about

this is not a poem about death:
be a bird instead,

take flight, auger the wind,
bite the flesh of the night
and taste vermilion:

here, then, a list of reasons for living:
all
the moon and its soldiers in their
imperial garb so simple and redundant
oh how
to hate them is so satisfying;
a kite in the halo of
a thunderstorm,
or struck by lightning, or given
over to the ocean:
something serious, of course, a rabid piece
of child stuck up in an elm or
even a mad scientist thinking
of his dead wife and licking
glass;
or this then, even this then,
this:
to be a buffalo on the range and eating
a thousand leaves of grass
and whitman and all
mania of williams and ginsberg.

whack off the branch of a lonely
tree and keep the limb with
you and
when you step into a pond later
in the evening some years
from now
cry
as the twig drifts in the drink.

Hey guys, just read an article on David Foster Wallace. Suicide sucks, and god damn it, us writers are sensitive. It's a wonder sometimes we all don't just throw ourselves in front of a bus. But, geez! Morbid!

time doesn't exist

Hey hey
delay delay

we who sit in coffee shops speaking in
circles
oh
there's a girl over there
and I've stared at her strawberry bangs
lolling in front of her forehead.

what's
oh
what's it in the center of a fugue
laughing ca
ca in the gristle thist?

now now
we
settle down, an ivory day,
cool clouds and sex,
be be
be

the thief in the canopy
hoping to harm
an heiress.

give it up,
left love liar,

the undoling pistol fist of heaven
is
erect upon your thin
chest

the story of a new man

Hey people, here's a post about everything. A story that I'm writing for you right now (time doesn't exist!) and as you read it, well, just wonder whether I'm still writing it.

The man from Parma had sideburns that sauntered up
the crags of his face.
He ordered
a tall
lemonade and made away with it
into the vanity shop next door.
Margarita asked everyone
where
her
man
went.

He's guzzling the black ribs of the bird,
girl,
you know; you're so good looking
but
you waste it
in a flower pot.
Then Margie cries.
Then the crow flies.
Then the man from Parma returns.
Then the place closes and it becomes nighttime.
Inside the man from Parma's coat pocket is a small poem he
wrote:

the way of the world
is kind; I have been
lurid and mighty, as
is my want; leave me
the only girl with
pennies for eyes; snake
slither sizzle
